European Alps Snow report

Well it really isn’t as bad as people are saying, but if we’re being brutally honest it hasn’t turned out to be the snowy start to the season that we all anticipated this year, particularly after the fantastic early snowfall and cold temperatures in November. It was all looking very promising which was a relief after the slow start to the last few seasons, but it seems it was just a bit too early.

Wall to wall sunshine has prevailed since then, across pretty much all of the Alps. Although sunshine is great, it does take its toll on the snow conditions.

Having said that, the conditions at higher altitudes are actually very good, anywhere above about 2000m is doing alright, certainly better than last season!

The temperatures have generally been fairly low, so the snow makers have been working very hard to get pistes open for Christmas and New year.

I have plucked a few pictures from the internet from a variety of resorts to give you a bit of an overview of how things are looking at the moment.

Fortunately there is more snow on the way, the forecasts are looking fairly promising with some areas forecast over 2m… http://www.snow-forecast.com
